Advertising and Integrity of the Digital Health Education Content Policy

Advertising and Sponsorship Policy

The digital health education content sites do not solicit any advertising, are not subsidized by grants, and authors do not receive sponsorship.

The revenue from all digital health education content sites is derived solely from licensing its content, tools, and applications to clients. These clients may or may not accept advertising. Visitors and consumers are advised to read the licensee's advertising policy.

False or misleading claims

WebMD Ignite is dedicated to providing clients and end-users clear, current, evidence-based, and accurate health information. Based on our Standards of Excellence, every effort is made to ensure that post digital clinical content on the digital health education content sites that have false or misleading claims or promote ineffective or dangerous products.

In addition to the oversight by our Quality Management Accreditation Council, the following processes are also implemented to ensure the health, safety, or welfare of clients and end-users regarding digital clinical education content:

  1. Immediate updates: Clinical content that is affected by significant new medical knowledge or clinical inaccuracy is updated expediently in the content management system (CMS).

  2. Daily news feed: Articles provide a weekly update on changes in healthcare based on research and announcements from federal agencies and medical organizations and societies.

  3. Client feedback: WebMD Ignite pledges to respond to emails from clients within 24 hours on business days and make every attempt to resolve disputes and complaints within one week of receipt.

  4. Disclosures: Information is disclosed to the client or end-user via the About and Contact Policy page on how to register a complaint, give feedback, request information on policies or procedures, and report a broken link.

  5. Evidence-based content: Clinical content is based on current practice guidelines and standards of medical associations, foundations, and organizations, as well as federal agencies.

  6. Current information: All digital health education content is sourced and dated when reviewed, edited and updated.

  7. Medical review: Digital health education content enters the medical review process every 24 months. The process includes: two medical reviews, one editorial review, a QA (clinician review) process, and a translation update—may take up to six months to complete. Certain diseases and conditions that have ongoing medical research and frequent updates to treatment guidelines are medically reviewed more often to remain current with standards of care.

  8. Clinician credentials: Medical reviewers and content developers are highly skilled professional clinicians or subject matter experts in their field of work.

For information about medical review and content development processes, please review our Consumer Health Library policies: Digital Health Education Content Management Policy and Digital Health Education Content Development and Sourcing Policy.
